Becky Curran

In 1984, Becky Curran was born an achondroplastic dwarf in Boston, Massachusetts. This means that she stand four feet tall with an average sized torso but shorter arms and legs.

Growing up, the best thing her family and friends have done is to not treat her differently than anyone else. She's always wanted to face the same challenges everyone else has to face. She grew up as an active participant, alongside her average height peers, in sailing, skiing, soccer and swimming.

Physically, she's gone through eight surgical procedures and has overcome several obstacles throughout her everyday life. The most difficult surgery she was faced with was when she was fifteen and a sophomore in high school. She had seven pieces of her vertebrae removed by world-renowned neurosurgeon and Dr. Benjamin Carson. He is most well known for his groundbreaking work with separating conjoined twins. In 1987, he led a medical team to perform the first successful separation of twins conjoined at the back of the head. Luckily, she was in good hands. He’s one of her biggest inspirations.

After high school, she continued her education at Providence College in Rhode Island. In 2006, following college, she decided that she wanted to be involved in the entertainment industry and then ended up moving to Los Angeles, California.

When she first moved to Los Angeles the summer after college, she went on 100 interviews and a few temporary job assignments. In January 2007, she started as a temp and then as an assistant to at a talent agency in Los Angeles where she currently works.

Becky wants to help find mentors and mentees for people with disabilities, especially since it's been hard for her to find one in her current position. In addition, she's hoping to facilitate a way to change the way people with physical differences are perceived in the media, society, and the world. She truly believes that we were all brought to this earth for a reason. No matter what resources one may have, they’re fully capable of anything they put their minds to and work hard towards.
